THINGS TO KNOW

The city of Clear Lake has provided Lake Life rentals with a list of local laws and restrictions. 

  1. No person under the age of 18 shall be permitted to-operate the vehicle.

  2. No person without a valid unrestricted driver's license may be permitted to operate the vehicle.

  3. Occupancy of the vehicle shall not exceed the number of passengers for which the vehicle was designed by the manufacturer. 

  4. No person may stand on the vehicle while it is in operation.

  5. The vehicle may only be operated on the streets of the City of Clear Lake, subject to limitations set fort in the agreement. 

  6. The vehicle shall not be operated upon any city streets with a posted speed limit greater than 25mph or on any of the following streets or parts thereof**:

    1. US HWY 18​

    2. Iowa HWY 122

    3. 4th Avenue S., Between S. 8th Street and the east corporate limits.

    4. Any street other than those that are paved with dust-free hard surfacing. (The "prohibited streets")

  7. However, the vehicle may cross the prohibited streets to traverse to and from streets on which the vehicle is permitted to operate. 

  8. The vehicle shall not be operated on any recreational, bike, or walking trail.

  9. The vehicle shall not be operated on any sidewalk.

  10. The vehicle shall not be operated on any portion of a street right-of-way between the curb or edge of street paving and the sidewalk.

  11. No vehicle shall be operated in a park or other property owned by the city, unless prior written authorization by the city is obtained.

  12. The vehicle may be operated only after sunrise and only until sunset. No vehicle shall be operated on the city streets between sunset and sunrise.

  13. No vehicle shall be parked on a city street or alley between sunset and sunrise.

  14. Each vehicle shall be equipped with the following features:

    1. Slow moving vehicle sign​

    2. Safety flag, the top of which shall be a minimum of 5 feet above the ground

    3. Brakes

    4. A rearview mirror (located either in the center of the vehicle or on the driver's side. (The "required equipment")

  15. Customer shall not remove or disable the required equipment.

  16. No person intoxicated by alcohol or under the influence of drugs shall be permitted to operate the vehicle.
